Anyone else having errors with version 6?

autodeskguest

There are a few obvious bugs in version 6:

Schematic editor loading with a grid of 0.1", no matter how many times you tell it you want 0.05".

Parts not dropping where you let them go, i.e. jumping a grid place over.

Random connecting / not connecting when you drop a part on the end of a net.

But the biggest is the random changing of other nets that are not intended to be changed. If I have one page of nets called "DIGIN_0" through to "DIGIN_15", and I copy this to another page and rename the nets to "DIGIN_16" through to "DIGIN_31", then all looks good. I like the feature of "Just change this segment" - it's simple and useful.

When you re-open Eagle though, the two schematic pages have the same net names, i.e. both pages have nets "DIGIN_16" through "DIGIN_31".

The PCB however has the correct netlist information, so Eagle reports an error.

Specifically:

Error:

line 7777, column 9: redefinition of name 'DIGIN_16' in tag

This has happened three times now, each time I have lost a day and a half's work by re-entering data. Recovering saved backups only delays the problem until you re-open Eagle to be welcomed with the same message.

Having paid over £1200 for a three-seat license, I feel a little annoyed.

Can I go back to Version 5 with my new license?

    Hi Mike,

You should setup you're default grid in the eagle.scr, this script is

run every time you run any of EAGLE's editors. It's an excellent way to

setup defaults. That said I would not deviate too much from 0.1" since

all of EAGLE's default libraries are made to that grid and you might

    have trouble connecting to components.

The other problem you're experiencing is more interesting. Please send

test files as well as a procedure to recreate the issue to

support@cadsoftusa.com for analysis, that way the developers can get on

to fixing it if it turns out to be a legitimate bug.

I would like to confirm Mike Evans report about version 6.  I also see

random jumping of parts that are being placed, especially after being

copied from somewhere else with the copy tool.  I cannot send any test

files because the bug is not repeatable.  It just happens about 1 out

of 20 times I copy a part.  It also happens when I place an object

from a library.  I don't believe I have seen the problem when moving a

part.  The "jump" is usually one grid point away from where I let up

on the mouse button.  It is not just me jerking the mouse as I let up

on the button.  My workaround is just to be very observant and correct

these jumps with an adjustment move after it happens.  There is no

special kind of part that needs to be involved.  I have seen it happen

with simple resistors.  This happens only is the schematic editor, not

the board editor.  And I am normally placing a part so that some pin

of the part attaches to a net.  The jump, when it occurs, normally

results in the part not making the desire connection.  I don't know if

random placements suffer the jump probem when no connection is

possible.  It could be because I have never seen the jump except when

I am trying to make a connection.

As for using a grid other than 0.1", I normally using a grid of 0.025"

all the time.  And it starts up that way for me.  It could be that

Mike is not "opening" the project, just opening the board.  Mike, do

you see a green dot next to the project name when you open it?
