Running DRC Creates 'Ghost' traces.

Every time I run DRC I get stray Traces and hundreds of errors.  The ghost traces are on  different layers and cause  Width, clearance,distance, etc errors.  Images of Before and after  running DRC shown below.   Currently using Eagle 7.1 -- Have had problem in previous versions of 6 but seems to be getting worse. I'm running Win8 Pro.  Don't know if it is an OS problem or not.   Images persist on reloading but disappear when I delete the '.pro' file.   Ghost traces don't appear to get imbedded into Gerber files but do create problems running down trace errors. How to I prevent this behavior.

    You may be right.  I thought each error was simply highlighted with a square box as it was selected in the dialog box.  But it that's the case,  Why doesn't it disappear when a correction is made and the DRC is re-run??  Why do these 'ghost' traces remain on the board layout after the DRC dialog is closed ?? And.. if cleared in the dialog box, they never show up again unless the .pro file is deleted and the board is reloaded.   

     

    I'm relatively new to Eagle and may not understand many of the settings but at this point it appears the DRC can be more of a hindrance than a help.
