Eagle- How do I put a hole in my PCB?

I tried placing a hole using the command HOLE 0.125 *

But the PCB manufacturer bounced the order because the holes were only 0.003mm.

In case it is a 4.4 mm (Milimeter) hole than you set the grid to mm.

CHANGE Drill 4.4

Place the hole.

With INFO you can check that the drill is correct.

With a new drill value you can click the existing hole to change it.

4-40 is a standard screw size - "Number four by 40 TPI" - used in many

places including the lock threads on Sub-D connectors. It's a UNC

thread, of similar size to M3 but coarser.

However, the point is valid - giving "0.125" as a size without

specifying "inches" results in a 0.125mil hole - about 0.003mm - if the

grid is set to "mil"

No, the correct command depends on your grid units, which is why Joern

gave a sequence of commands:

    GRID mm;

to set the grid units to millimetres, then:

    CHANGE DRILL 3.175;

to set the drill size.

If you prefer to operate in inches, you could do:

    GRID inch;

    CHANGE DRILL 0.125;

Or if you were happy with "mil" (thousandths of an inch, a.k.a. "thou"

in old English mechanical engineering):

    GRID mil;

    CHANGE DRILL 125;

You can skip the "change drill" by invoking the hole command with a

diameter, but you still need to know your grid units:

    GRID mil;

    HOLE 125

The '' in the help is a place-holder. It's not valid to type a '' into

the command line but it is valid to supply a list of locations:

    GRID inch;

    HOLE 0.125 (0.3 0.3) (3.7 0.3) (0.3 2.7) (3.7 2.7);

Note the semicolon, meaning "that's all", so this will place four holes

and not leave the tool active.

The built-in help is quite good on most of this, as is the PDF manual.

as I didn't see it mentioned:

you always can add a unit (mil, mm, inch, mil mic) to a value to get

what you want independent of the grid settings.

So there is no need to change the grid settings just to enter a value

using a differing unit.
