Finding Components on a Schematic Design

Former Member
Former Member over 14 years ago

Is there a way to find a specific component by typing a reference

designator that will have the schematic editor zoom in on that component

regardless of whether the component is on the current page or on a

different page on of the schematic.  I know that SHOW will highlight the

component, but if it's not on the current page or you've got a dense

schematic it is often difficult to see the highlight.  What I am looking

for is the ability to enter a ref des and have it automatically zoom to

that component no matter which page it is on.

Thanks

-Michael

You know, I thought there was a ULP to do that but it doesn't appear to

be in the folder that holds the ULPs.  Maybe it got deleted by mistake

    somehow.

    Thanks for the info guys.

BTW, is it possible to create your own button on the Eagle toolbar?

I've assigned the find.ulp to be  F, which works nicely, but a

toolbar button is a nice reminder for functions that are less frequently

    used.

    Thanks,

You can customise the Command Text Menu which displays on the right of the

    editor window.

If it is not displayed you can turn it on with Options/User Interface.

Essentially, anything you can do from the command bar you can build a button

to do and cascade other buttons from that button.

By default Eagle comes with it pretty much duplicating the icons of the

    command button toolbar

Read up on the Menu command and the section of the manual that illustrates

the structure of the cascaded menu.

Many strongly customise these text menus to perform many functions. Most

often you modify your eagle.scr so that the appropriate customisation occurs

in the Brd, Sch and Lib editors

Attached is a script (crafted by the late Syd Levine). Run it and your

Command Text menu will change and thus you'll see some of the possibilities.

Clicking "Refresh Eagle.scr" within the menus will run your Eagle.scr and

get you back to the way you were before running this script.

    Enjoy

Do you know about the @ option of the SHOW command? SHOW @ IC3

highlights IC3 and draws a pointer and a rectangle around it.

In case the component is not on the current sheet a menu appears

that shows you where you can find it.

    Available since EAGLE 5.5.0
