I have just started using Eagle 5.10.0 (on Windows XP) and, therefore, don't have my own library of components yet.
Although a large number of libraries already come with EAGLE, thank goodness, I already ran into my first two missing
components, namely the DIN 41612 connector for Eurocards and Backplanes, so I started asking around. Someone
told me that there is an effort under way to compile a library of components for EAGLE, sorted and accessible simply
via its Newark part number. What a great idea! But it is also a huge task, which will take time to complete! Of course,
if EAGLE's BOM puts out a neat list of all the parts already with their Newark part number, who would want to look
elsewhere to buy the parts. In my case, it would be fantastic if all my parts would be the first ones in Newark's
EAGLE library, but I don't think that will happen.
So I had this idea: what if EAGLE users could suggest those parts that should be high on the priority list, and those
with the highest number of votes from all users will get the highest priority to go into the library, which would be updated
regularly (eg, once a month or once every quarter)?
In return, each user suggesting a Newark part for priority, he/she should suggest not only one part, but all parts that
are equivalent. This should be easy because the user already knows the part inside out, at least as far as needed to
define it for the EAGLE library. For example, I found 2 ~equivalent parts for my two DIN 41612 connectors at Newark today:
a) 26M4917, 26M5262
b) 26M5251, 26M7865
In the mean time, if anyone should already have the above components for EAGLE, I would very much appreciate not
to have to re-invent the wheel, so I can get my first PCB (the backplane with basically only DIN 41612's on it) out the
door faster.
