Newark Library for Eagle

Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

I have just started using Eagle 5.10.0 (on Windows XP) and, therefore, don't have my own library of components yet.

Although a large number of libraries already come with EAGLE, thank goodness, I already ran into my first two missing

components, namely the DIN 41612 connector for Eurocards and Backplanes, so I started asking around. Someone

told me that there is an effort under way to compile a library of components for EAGLE, sorted and accessible simply

via its Newark part number. What a great idea! But it is also a huge task, which will take time to complete! Of course,

if EAGLE's BOM puts out a neat list of all the parts already with their Newark part number, who would want to look

elsewhere to buy the parts. In my case, it would be fantastic if all my parts would be the first ones in Newark's

EAGLE library, but I don't think that will happen.

So I had this idea: what if EAGLE users could suggest those parts that should be high on the priority list, and those

with the highest number of votes from all users will get the highest priority to go into the library, which would be updated

regularly (eg, once a month or once every quarter)?

In return, each user suggesting a Newark part for priority, he/she should suggest not only one part, but all parts that

are equivalent. This should be easy because the user already knows the part inside out, at least as far as needed to

define it for the EAGLE library. For example, I found 2 ~equivalent parts for my two DIN 41612 connectors at Newark today:

a) 26M4917, 26M5262
b) 26M5251, 26M7865

In the mean time, if anyone should already have the above components for EAGLE, I would very much appreciate not

to have to re-invent the wheel, so I can get my first PCB (the backplane with basically only DIN 41612's on it) out the

door faster.

It looks like I am talking to myself, but there are other, perhaps more interesting ways to "vote" for a part,

namely buying a quantity N of a certain part would give that part N votes.

Instead of maintaining an EAGLE library of Newark parts, Newark could put a link with the component

(say next to the datasheet link) where clients can download it from and put it into an EAGLE library.

It looks like I am talking to myself,

There was a whole 23 minutes between your first post and this one.  I don't

understand why the world didn't take notice and provide 100 responses in

that time either.  Wait, could it be because 1: People have other things to

do, and 2: They don't care anyway?  Nah, never mind, that can't be.  You're

right, it must be that you're just talking to youself.

    Hi Benno,

Don't mind Olin, we are all here to help. Often times depending on the post you might see 1 or 2 days go by before you get a response. When you post to the suggestions forum don't always expect a response, it's just a place to put forth ideas on features for future versions of EAGLE, the developers WILL see it however they may choose not to act on it.

If you post a question, on the appropriate forums (User Chat and Support) you'll generally get quick responses.

Again don't mind Olin, he's actually one of the most experienced and knowledgeable users you'll find on the forum, and usually he's more than willing to help but he has a strong apprehension to users who don't look at the manual or ask questions that have been answered in other posts. So you may find yourself getting more help from other users on your first few posts.

    Don't worry your being heard.

    Best Regards,

    Hi all,

I must apologize. I didn't mean it the way I put it. I certainly did not expect any answer in that short a time.

I was rather poking fun at myself, trying to say that it must look to everybody else as if I like to reply to myself.

But I thought this was one way to keep it in the same thread.
