Show and zoom??

Sure there can be several methods of showing something.

I like the way it is. I can see where the component is. In most cases

I know what component it is, but I don't know where it is placed.

So the pointer is a good solution for me. If I want to see the details

I can quickly zoom in.

Of course, zooming onto the object directly can be usefull as well.

In this case you could use RUN find.ulp. I think it zooms onto the

object. But IMHO in most cases you have to zoom out again to get

out where you are.

Thanks to all for the tips. I'll look for this run.ulp and see how it

works. Sounds like lots of keystrokes to find a part but it may be worth

you can assign a single key to run the ulp I believe. also if you have a

3button mouse, then there is no need to mess around with scroll bars.

you use the wheel to zoom and hold down the wheel (middle button) to

pan, as in most CAD software these days. If you have a laptop, it would

be worth getting a small mouse if you do a lot of CAD.

Gee, I just pushed down on my mouse wheel and discovered I had a 3

button mouse and it pans -- amazing. I've had this mouse for at least 3

years and I've had to use both vert and horiz scroll bars like crazy to

simply look at my schematics. I've still got to find that run.ulp.

the ULP is called FIND.ulp

It's in the ULP folder so you just use it.

Type 'run find' (without the quotes) into the command line and it should

reveal a dialog to confirm it's there.

If you type 'run find R1' the dialog mentioned above will not appear. If you

have an R1 on the page it will be zoomed to and highlighted

Warren, thank you for the info. When I run a ulp the program looks only

at my own ulp directory (not in the eagle directories). So I put a copy

in my directory and when I did "run find r1" I first get a message that

it can't find ulpmessage.ulp. So I found that file in eagle, copied it

in my ulp directory and then did "run find r1" again. This time it

popped up a message that says it found the part but I have OK the

message before it actually zooms in on the part. This is not very

convenient. Do you have to go thru okaying this message or am I just not

commands like SHOW behave slightly differently.

Could a V5 user verify find.ulp does centre and zoom to the part and then

present the dialog (which needs to be acknowledged)

I don't know, but I'm on 4.16r2 and I have a confirm dialog as well.

I figured out how to get rid of the acknowledgment requirement. Just

edit ulpmessage.ulp and dump the one line that pops up the window.

Didn't have to do anything to exp-project-lbr.ulp.
