After reading through this I understand better.  However, I'm at a loss

why, for example, the grid setting on a schematic is NOT saved (to the

eagle.epf file) when I close it.  I'll set the grid to ON with style of

"DOTS" but after I close and open it again the grid is off and set to

"LINES".  Isn't this supposed to be saved?  Note that in the Control Panel

under Options/Backup the "Automatically save project file" is CHECKED so it

should have saved.  In fact I know the .epf file is changed due to the

date/time after I close the project but it doesn't save the grid settings

nor does remember the window size..for that matter.

So what gives?  This is why I've been confused by this issue...

Hello,

You don't make it clear wether you first make a project and then start a 

schematic or just create a new schematic. Project settings are only saved 

when you create a project first because there has to be a place to save 

the project file (There is a project file (.epf) for each project you 

create).

Hi jom,

I always open the project from the "control panel" by clicking on the green

dot, rather than opening a schematic individually. Try that.

Oooops... I should have said white dot. The green dot shows which project is

open.

I believe the grid setting is saved in the BRD file for each board.

If your grid setting has changed when you re-open the BRD then it is likely

that that is being commanded from the eagle.scr file.

eagle.scr runs each time a board is opened and after the settings of the

board file have been applied.

So check your eagle.scr for a GRID command or a script that is being run and

contains a command to set the grid to lines.

No, that's not odd, that's entirely expected.

When you click the white dot to make it green, you are opening the

project and Eagle restores the project's settings. If the last thing

you did was to close both editors then the project's settings are for

both editors closed. So don't do that.

that this .epf file updated whenever you opened or closed a file in that

project.  I see that if you open and close using the Control Panel green

dot things are saved like you expect.  IMO, however, this is a poor way to

do it.  I find it easier just to save then click the "X" to close a window

rather than going over to the Control Panel to close.  Whatever the case,

I'm sure it something I can adjust to.

Speaking to Warren's post above and the eagle.scr file I've been curious

about the entry:

#Menu Add Change Copy Delete Display Grid Group Move Name Quit Rect \

1.     Route Script Show Signal Split Text Value Via Window ';'  Wire Write

Edit;

This, or something similar, seems to appear in each section (ie SCH, LBR,

DEV etc etc).  Since these commands seem to be commented out I'm wondering

what the purpose of that is.  I undid the comments to one and it just added

a list (horizontal) across the menu area.  I can see leaving something in

the file like this for possible future use but in EVERY section?  I'm

wondering if there is something more to it....???
