Beer for eagle users

Wow, I doon't know where to start!

So many things have been said, some of which I agree with and some that I

don't, but everything helps me open my mind (except, obviously, raw

negative comments). I believe Morten Leikvoll set me on the right track, so

I'll be playing around with that. As for what makes a good engineer, well,

what's been said I find true, but it is not because someone does not like

the command line that it makes him a bad engineer. Like I said I use the

command line and the mouse, I find both have excellent advantages, and I am

not an engineer, first and foremost. I always take the time, I repeat, to

search the help file and the forum before I ask questions, believe it or

not I could not find anything helping me in the previous threads about

attributes. It is quite possible that I need to be told more specifically,

with an example, what to do in many cases.

I guess it all depends on our experience with Eagle, and I have only been

using it for two years, at a duty cycle of about 50%.

Oh! I'd love to buy anyone a beer, if they're up in the Ottawa region

(Canada) because obviously people have asked for their beer!

Well, this time I'm actually going to provide answers instead of

questions!

To my surprise addign attributes was much simpler than I thought. Funny

enough, I discovered this when I wasn't even searching for it. I don't know

what I was doing but I know I was in the schematic editor and did a

right-click on a symbol, and saw "Attribute" in the pop-up menu. I thought,

this is interesting, what if...

And yes, I clicked on it and up comes the attribute window where you CAN

actually input your info. Very simple, and effective, I can finally do what

I want, which was add (company)part numbers, or anything else, to my

discretion.

Another member said that yes it's possible, but it was "complicated" with

numerous clicks and right clicks. I don't think so, I find it's quite easy.

If only I'd discovered this before I posted, I would have saved LOTs of my

time.

does anyone know how to add a common value to the attribute of many

different parts? Say I have a bunch of 0603 2k2 resistors that I want to be

called, say 60-0001. Is there a command or ulp that can stuff all my 10

resistors with this value?

HI Redcutlass,

I have been learning the ULP language very intensely over the past few

weeks, I am making great progress with my "Advanced" BOM/MRP system.

As far as your question goes, you will need to have a ulp to run through

all the parts in your schematic and then find those that match the DEVICE +

VALUE, i.e R0805:10K, then add ( if not already there) an attribute for say

PARTNO, and copy the "partno" in to all those occurrences.

My system does this, as well as a whole heap of other things.

It may be a few more weeks before I can release something. So far I am at

abput 1000 line of code.

I REALLY do like the ULP Language( a lot !!!), lots of the HARD WORK has

already been implemented in its built in functions, especially for access

to parts and string functions.

well you seem to have exactly what I'm looking for. But that seems like a

really big ulp. I have no idea what language a ulp is made with, but I'd

just like to have something simple. I mean, because of its size, it is much

harder and takes more time to debug, so I guess before it's safe to use

(has NO errors in part numbers, line changes, syntax errors, etc) it will

take a lot of beta testing.

I don't need to do this right at the moment, but in the next weeks, I

guess.
