Internet request whenever Eagle is launched

I would rather it didn't.

I don't like distractions.

If you prefer you could switch off these checks. Go to the menu

Help/Check for Update and set it to "never".

Perhaps a compromise,  When the software is first installed, usually from the website, it does not have to look for updates.  Why not just leave the checkmarks OFF.  Let the user determine when to look for updates.
