Schematic transfer Eagle to P-CAD

Anyhow, meantime I had to do the first review and I ended up revising

their schematics using <ahem, cough, clears throat> ... MS-Paint

Hmm ... so I guess there ain't no way to do this.

Normally, the problem is not mainly at EAGLEs side. You can /export/ the

complete design data in about any possible format by using ULPs. But

does P-CAD (for example) have some interface to /import/ a complete

schematic?

However, care must be taken on different approaches regarding devices

and how they are referenced. Maybe you'd need some database for

translation between the two systems (the ULP could make use of that

database, so the output file could eventually be imported to the target

system without further modifications).

As an example, Target 3001 (luckily I don't need to use that...) offers

import of EAGLE designs by providing a specific export ULP - IIRC. The

exported file can then be imported to Target.

I assume there must be because other CAD packages have that P-CAD

linking feature:

I am aware that probably none of such routines will be perfect. But if

it avoids redrawing only resistors, lines, capacitors and maybe diodes

and transistors, that covers 90% plus of the grunt work that otherwise

has to be done. Only fancy parts such as ICs or connectors would need to

be edited in.

Now I have just "winged it" with MS-Paint which looks ok on paper but

the client has to draw it all again.

Of course - however, that might be a little bit more effort.

 

I'll keep doing it with MS-Paint then. That is a bone-simple piece of

software but remarkably efficient for revising graphics documents. And

it's free, comes with the computers

What would be really nice but certainly not coming anytime soon: If you

could load the whole JPG or whatever format into Eagle schematics as a

"background", then draw a regular schematic on top of it. Now you could

also draw schematics with a theme. Maybe with the Golden Gate Bridge or

the Brandenburg Gate in the background, or Brutus the dog. Now that

would be cool.
