Im 90% sure I used reply ..on my screen All my posts in this forum appear

in the only thread I have made since joining ..I always return to my posts

several times to check spelling/clarity so I would probably notice if I

created a new thread

Yes, that web gateway still has "some problems of some kind"... :-\

What about using a decent news client (Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Forte

Agent, etc.) and access the newsgroups directly? Note that even when

accessing the "forums" at eaglecentral.ca, you are not really using a

forum - instead, it's just a (somewhat buggy) web based frontend to the

newsgroups.

already posted 'self-explanatory screenshots' in my first post and then

posted them again in reply to Morten ...I though you were warning me

because I had posted the same screenshots twice ..and now your asking for

There simply was no "first post" here. Your first post visible in the

newsgroup seemingly is a reply already (starting with Re: in the

subject). Eventually, your attachment was larger than the size limit

(50k?) for the newsgroups so it didn't get through.

The (probably) second screenshot is visible - but from that, at least I

can't see what your problem is. There is an imported logo, obviously

importing it has worked. Fine - but what's the problem with the gerber data?

will you be able to see them?

This has been a messy thread. A few observations looking at it with

newsreader and browser.

The initial post was not accepted by Newsgroup as it was over 50kB.

Interestingly (the first time I have seen this) although James reconfigured

EagleCentral to not accept files over 50k and limited to three attachments,

you can add many 49kB files so that's why it was rejected by Newsgroup as

there was 116kB of attachments.

A trap with NNTP is that the 50kB appears to be the whole message and not

the attachment limit so a 49.6kB attachment at EagleCentral won't  get

through due to the text ,message and wrapper text exceeding 50k in total.

A later  post did not get to the Newsgroup. It had a sigle 45.88kB

attachment.

The first message the newsgroup saw, the second post when viewed at

EagleCentral has an imbeded image. Strangely this image appears to have been

attached to the first message. James needs to look into this.

Subsequent posts have images imbedded. These don't pass through to the

newsgroup. Something more for James.

Stop Press: An now tuk- has posted all the images again, which did not reach

the newsgroup  because the total is 180kB

TUK- It is web ediquit to compress/optimise your images before attaching.

Get a app like 'Image Optimiser'  and your screen shots can be squashed  to

a more manageble size. Had you done this, all your images would have got

through.

I did not see apparent new threads as Tilmann saw.

That's logical since in newsgroups, all attachments are transported in

the message body - and due to encoding the size increases about 20%.

I can strongly recommend the Faststone Image Viewer as the perfect

all-purpose tool for everything related to images.

I did not see apparent new threads as Tilmann saw.

See the attached image. The screenshot shows the first post of tuk

appearing in the newsgroup, and all the subsequent new threads fully

expanded.

Maybe your OE is configured so that it automatically combines threads

that have the same subject line? In fact, those posts by tuk don't have

the usual "references" header, so they are not correctly related to the

existing thread. Maybe this is a result of the first post missing, so

the gateway couldn't detect the message to reference in first place?

My newsclient also provides that option, but it's better to leave it

unchecked. Otherwise, posts with more common subjects (i.e. "I have a

question") are sorted as reply to some old post that randomly had the

same subject.

(And while we're at it, you could consider installing Quotefix...)

I had a look at  Faststone Image Viewer

It does not appear to be able to compress images. I see it can

resize/resample but not optimise for a smaller file size. Have I missed it?.

You already found it by yourself...

Besides, it's essential to choose the right file format. JPEG is only

fine for photos, for screenshots of menus or technical content PNG is

much more effective (with reduced number of colors to further shrink the

files) - and also better to read (lacks the compression artefacts).

It is installed already from your previous advice, thanks  Although I

replied to a post, I did erase everything and not quote any of  it. Are you

seeing something amiss?

Your second post on the "boycott" issue (18.09.) contains some broken

quotes (lines wrapped after quoting).
