how to copy a symbol

Is it possible to copy an existing library-symbol to another name so I

can use it as a starting point afterwards for editing and making a

different package with it?

    Open the library editor and open/create a library

    Go to the Control Panel (..the eagle control panel not the windows one)

    Expand the libraries tab and browse to the symbol/part that you want

    Right click and select the "Copy to Library" option ...this copies the

    part/symbol/package to your new library

    symbols can not be copied separately.

     

    You will need to copy a device that uses the symbol you want.

    That will copy all packages and symbols used by that device too, so

    you will have to clean up afterwards.

    Unfortunately... Hoping that V6 will finally fix that.

     

    You will need to copy a device that uses the symbol you want.

    That will copy all packages and symbols used by that device too, so

    you will have to clean up afterwards.

     

    If you need only the symbol, GROUP/CUT/PASTE will probably be easier and

    faster.
