Trouble with Eagle 6 on Ubuntu 10.04

Former Member over 14 years ago

I downloaded the .run file from the website today for Eagle 6, but when I tried to run it, I received this error:

/tmp/eagle-setup.6445/eagle-6.0.0/bin/eagle: error while loading shared libraries: libpng14.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

/tmp/eagle-setup.6445/eagle-6.0.0/bin/eagle: error while loading shared libraries: libpng14.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I tried to follow the advice given for 11.04 (seen here: http://www.element14.com/community/message/41329#41329/l/re-solved-problem-trying-to-install-eagle-6-over-linux-ubuntu-1110), but for me, the command "tar xf" does not work on .txz files. When I manually extracted the contents of the file and ran the doinstall.sh, but it gives me more errors (namely, could not cd to usr/lib).
Any specific advice for 10.04?

    Hi Jason,

You can grab the libraries from one of the betas, I got them from 5.91.3

and copied them into my usr/lib folder on my ubuntu 10.04 machine.

    Working like a champ now.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

I'm trying to get this running on Fedora 16 & it also doesn't have libpng14.  I built the png 14 library and tried to install it, but eagle didn't find it.  I tried to find the files in the beta directory, but didn't find 5.91.3 anymore.  I'm going to keep trying things, but this is frustrating.  I understand  that the files may not be able to be included for various reasons, but it is frustrating to buy software and not get great support for installing it.  I realize that simply griping doesn't help the situation so here are some suggestions:

    1. Offer instructions for the current Debian and Redhat distros (like Ubuntu & Fedora)
    2. Offer pre-built binaries of the extra needed libraries for 32 & 64 bit machines so we can copy them to the right location.
    3. Make the installer script pull the packages/libraries that are missing

Any type of help will be welcome.

That's because it doesn't exist anymore. It was one of the beta's for

version 6.0, which is released now.

You might want to try with that, maybe it's comes with more up-to-date

    instructions
