First GROUP everything, then simply MOVE it.

Select the proper reference coordinate after COPY (CUT with V5) and/or

PASTE it to a useful position.

If you let EAGLE automatically choose the reference coordinate, it will

be centered and thus often will be exactly half-grid (depending on the

package).

 

Take a look into HELP and the manual on how to exactly use these

commands and their options.

OK, thanks - that was basically what I ended up doing - by using the ALT

key, I can

place the grouped object on the finer grid which (as you pointed out) is

often off by

1/2 a grid line.  I was used to other cad type programs etc where you can

hold

down the CTL key for example which temporarily turns off the "snap to grid"

and

you can place the object exactly as wanted.

One warning for others experimenting with version 6 and 5 at the same time -

if

you have defined multiple library paths (as suggested by Cadsoft) that use

the

installed library as well as one you have defined in another path, when you

install the two versions, while the two versions get installed in separate

paths,

apparently, the library paths are in the registry since version 6 comes up

looking at the same extra user defined library even though I did not tell 6

that

I had an extra library path. (my test library is now version 6 only - it got

converted).

Perhaps a different part of the same question is - when I dropped a package

into a new window with the mouse click (copy/paste), it ended up with

everything on a grid offset by .05  (.15, .25 etc) is there an easy way to

move the package to align with the 0.1 inch grid instead of being offset by

0.5" ?  If the answer is obvious, please point me to the doc - I am more

than happy to read !!
