For experienced guys, the TOC at the left might be useful - they know

already roughly where to find what. For people who DON'T know the

software, the TOC at the left doesn't help too much. I agree it's better

than nothing, but decent links would be a billion times nicer.

 

Don't think like programmers: "We provided a table of contents, so that

should be enough for everybody." Think like a new user: "I just want the

information right now, without the necessity of a thousand clicks. Of

course I could do a full-text search, but I don't know exactly WHAT to

search for, because I don't know how the author CALLS the stuff that I

call so-and-so. Better to browse through the table of contents and try

to get some idea."

 

Just SOMEHOW providing a certain function is NOT enough for software

nowadays (20 years ago, it was). It should also be EASY for the user.

Therefore: Try to include links INSIDE the document. They're REALLY useful.

Okay, I will keep this in mind and try to get the toc linked

directly in the text for future releases.

Any decent pdf wiever has a "go to page" function, but yes, links are very

nice.
