Having trouble making library parts from others

Hi,

I'm trying to understand how to make a library part from another library part.  I can do it 1 piece at a time, but there should be a way to do it with the whole device, as shown on page 268-9 of the Eagle Version 6 manual.  I use the command line COPY 'AD712@C:\Program Files\EAGLE-6.1.0\lbr\analog-devices.lbr' AD8572NEW, but I get an error saying that it cannot find the part or library.  that is, "cannot find 'AD712@C:\Program Files\EAGLE-6.1.0\lbr\analog-devices.lbr'.  There must be a good way to do this.  I thought the manual was clear, until it didn't work.  Youtube has some videos on this but I wonder if they are from earlier versions of Eagle.  Ideally, I'd like to copy the entire device, including package variants if possible.  Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks.

Cannot comment on v6 as I have discontinued using it. I recommend new users

revert to v5.12  as many issues exist with v6 and you may have run into yet

    another.

The following is the easy way to do what you want,.Try it in your version.

    Open your target library.

Go into the control panel,  locate the device you wish to copy and

    right-click

Context dialog opens, select "Copy to Library" .

The device and all its variants are now in your new library
