Having trouble making library parts from others

Hi,

I'm trying to understand how to make a library part from another library part.  I can do it 1 piece at a time, but there should be a way to do it with the whole device, as shown on page 268-9 of the Eagle Version 6 manual.  I use the command line COPY 'AD712@C:\Program Files\EAGLE-6.1.0\lbr\analog-devices.lbr' AD8572NEW, but I get an error saying that it cannot find the part or library.  that is, "cannot find 'AD712@C:\Program Files\EAGLE-6.1.0\lbr\analog-devices.lbr'.  There must be a good way to do this.  I thought the manual was clear, until it didn't work.  Youtube has some videos on this but I wonder if they are from earlier versions of Eagle.  Ideally, I'd like to copy the entire device, including package variants if possible.  Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks.

    Hi Rick,

There's several ways to copy components from one library to another.

Here's the one I find the simplest.

    1. Open the destination library(the one you're going to copy into). The

    library editor should open.

    2. Go to the EAGLE control panel, expand the libraries tree and find the

device or package you would like to copy.

    3. Right-click on said device or package and select copy to Library. The

part will now be in your personal library.

When you copy a device, all packages associated with it as well as the

symbol get copied to your library. When you copy a package, that's all

    that gets copied the package.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

That worked perfectly.  Now how do I rename it in the new library?

    Thanks.
