Having trouble making library parts from others

Hi,

I'm trying to understand how to make a library part from another library part.  I can do it 1 piece at a time, but there should be a way to do it with the whole device, as shown on page 268-9 of the Eagle Version 6 manual.  I use the command line COPY 'AD712@C:\Program Files\EAGLE-6.1.0\lbr\analog-devices.lbr' AD8572NEW, but I get an error saying that it cannot find the part or library.  that is, "cannot find 'AD712@C:\Program Files\EAGLE-6.1.0\lbr\analog-devices.lbr'.  There must be a good way to do this.  I thought the manual was clear, until it didn't work.  Youtube has some videos on this but I wonder if they are from earlier versions of Eagle.  Ideally, I'd like to copy the entire device, including package variants if possible.  Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Thanks.

Not sure in 6, but in 5.12, you don't even need to go through the copy menu

    - you can simply open the destination library (and have at least part of it

visible on the screen), then expand the library tree to find the one you

want, left click and drag it to the open destination library.  Seems to

work fine for me (I forget where I found a tutorial on that method).

    Hi Mike,

That works, too but I just find it easier to explain with the context

menu. I've had users get confused when I mention drag and drop.

It's in the manual near the end of Chp 8.

    Best Regards,
