Routing a PCB and from time to time, I get an X symbol over a via. Why does this happen? Thanks.

Petteri, this is the problem I have been having. I'm using 6.1 and I've had many "unrouted" connections on my board. It is my first board, so I just chalk it up to learning. The previous program I used was smart enough to make the connection if the parts were connected with routes. That is, I could draw a route as a line on the copper layer and when it re-ran the ratsnest, if copper connected the parts, it called it good. Eagle seems to require that every lead snap to the center and make the "bonk" sound when it does, otherwise, it's not really connected. I've just been ripping it up and re-doing it. Makes for a slow layout, but now that I know, it should go faster. Thanks.
Hi Rickford,
Update to version 6.1.2. The manual routing had an issue that made
manual routing difficult, it's been corrected in V6.1.2. While routing
once you're within a certain range of the pad center it will snap to the
pad center so that you can finish the route and get the bonk sound.

The X appears if a trace doesn't "snap" to the center of the via. Re-draw
the trace and make sure it ends on the via with single click. This has been
easy in 5.11 but in 6.1 there are problems with the grid and snap. If the
trace doesn't end aith a single click, try to ripup the traces around the
via and then do ratsnest command and try again. This has worked for me.

My guess is that your board stackup is wrong. Make sure you have full
through via abd nor buried. You find this setting in DRC window, stack(?)
tab.

are you sure the via belongs to the same net as the tracks?
I've attached a small example where the upper via is from a different
net.

The via is there, and the X is there too at the same time.

It's essentially an "unroute" wire at a single point, indicating a
connection is desired from one layer to another. If you place a via, it
makes this connection. If you then later ripup the via, the top/bottom
traces that were formerly connected no longer are, thus an "X" unroute
shows up to let you know there needs to be a connection there.
If you do a ratsnest then "X" symbols that are no longer needed will go
away.
Andrew.
