Stop Mask DRC Errors when visible

Normally the stop mask layer (29) is not visible.  But when I made it

visible with View /Display-Hide Layers then ran the DRC, it came up

with a zillion stop mask errors - essentially everywhere there was a

stop mask.  Turn off visibility and no more errors.  Why does making

the stop mask layer visible affect whether or not there is an error?

I am using Eagle 6.0 on a Windows 7 computer.

    DRC is checked mainly on the active/visible layers, so that if you do not

    care about stop mask VS silk errors (for ex. if you do not print the part

    names) then you are not annoyed by these errors.
