There must be another eaglerc.usr........
Thanks, Richard, that was it. Eagle must have gone on a rampage, it
wrote another eaglerc.usr into a backup directory on a backup drive. I
have never used Eagle on anything on that whole drive, never opened any
files from there. How on earth did eaglerc.usr get there?
Anyhow, I nuked the file and the png links are now gone.
And here's the real puzzler: I ran a search on the whole computer again
after nuking the file, inlcuding all drives. Eagle has not written a new
eaglerc.usr anywhere.
Could you please check again? If there is no HOME environment
variable set, check the folder which is defined in the Windows
registry under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders\AppData
That has the entry:
C:\Documents and Settings\Joerg\Application Data
Another test:
What happens when you type MENU; in the command line of the layout/
schematic editor?
Absolutely nothing happens when I do that. The word clears out of the
command line and that's it.
Wonder what happens next, maybe Eagle will find out and report to the
Free State of Bavaria what kind of Hefeweizen I drink

Hi Joerg,
Did you happen to try out the V6 beta? I think that overwrites the
eagle.scr and eaglerc files (which it shouldn't). I keep mine in a
separate directory (along with lib's, dru's, etc) so that they don't and
can't get overwritten during upgrades. And they are also under revision
I've never tried V6 but tried V5 a long time ago. But that is kept in a
separate trial directory and I've never edited anything with that.

EAGLE already calls home each time you start it. Since version 5.0.0 we
check your bank account details and your monthly income. SCNR
No, seriously...
The text command menu can handle small images in the buttons since
version 5. So we have used this for introducing two new functions in
EAGLE. It's the designlink interface that can connect to the
Farnell/newark web site where you can look for technical information
for components, availablitity and so on. The second can help in getting
a quote from a Board manufacturer for your PCB.
The text menu is defined in eagle.scr for version 5 and 6. It will be
stored in the eaglerc.usr file as well.
Now when you are working with the old 4.16, I suppose that you either
read the eagle.scr from a newer EAGLE or maybe it reads the eaglerc.usr.
The file from November-11, 2011 hardly can be the file used. There must
be another one which should be newer.
What's you operating system? Windows 7? Then look in
Users/your_name/Appdata/Roaming/.../CadSoft/EAGLE
I am using XP. Just tried the file search and the one I mentioned is the
only instance on the whole C-drive, which is where all software and the
OS is installed.

Just took a look and it neither contains any ".png" nor the word
"MENUE". Nothing. According to Windows Explorer this file eaglerc.usr
was updated November-11, 2011.
Forgot to mention eagle.scr too

Check the betatest "designlink22.png ..." by eSilviu 13.10.2010
and also the answer of K. Schmidinger...
How on earth did they do that? Does Eagle contain a little ... ahem ...
"routine" to call home once in a while?
IMHO the only "backdoor" is the update check coming with V5 but that can
be configured off.
