New installation of Eagle 6.2.0 crashing

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

I've put a new instalation of Eagle 6.2.0 on a windows 7 PC.

It will bring up a project, but will crash on the first interaction with the design. It quietly closes out without warning or error message.

Being new to Eagle (but a user of many other CAD systems) I don't know where to start looking for a fix, so I've posted this message here.

Any clues?

Thank you,

David

The output of the system log show a memory fault:

These error messages do not help much. Was there already an older EAGLE

version installed on this computer? Is there already a file named

    eaglerc.usr on the system?

There was no older Eagle system. It was freshly purchased, downloaded

    and installed.

The two numbers above tell you that the eagle executable is making an

access to an illegal memory address (generally due to bad pointer

arithmetic). The offset tells you where in your code the erroneous

access is happening. Only you can determine what the offset refers to

because it's your code. No one else can.

As is stands, it is wasted money. The software doesn't even begin to work.

I since decided to try and run it on Linux. After fixing your broken library build script to get 32 bit libraries built so eagle would link the shared libraries, I get this:

      # /usr/local/eagle-6.2.0/bin/eagle

      Segmentation fault

I'm starting to see a pattern here. Regardless of the machine or the operating system, your software segfaults. You need to improve your Q&A or give me a refund.

Do you have any update for me?

It is still segfaulting. It is still useless. I'm rapidly turning into a very annoyed customer.

    Hi David,

Try downloading it again, in the error message you posted it doesn't

specify a version for the executable of EAGLE which leads me to believe

that the exe is somehow corrupt or missing code.

How big was the file? It should be in the neighborhood of 40MB.

Word to the wise, the Program Files(x86) folder has some restrictions

that mess with EAGLE so let EAGLE install into the Documents folder to

    avoid issues.
