in the file you posted the wire stub intended to connect the lower

polygon was not named gnd, and the two small polygons in the middle

hat no gnd connection at all. They merely overlapped the upper

polygon, but that does not count as a connection by itself.

You always need a wire or via or pad carring the relevant signal

inside the polygon area to make the polygon fill.

Or you need to toggle the Orphans flag.

Thanks, Lorenz.  I finally got things to work, but I'm not sure what I did

differently than I did originally.  I guess I'm wondering what the proper

way is to connect a polygon to a signal.  E.g., if I want to create a small

ground plane, I draw the outline with the polygon tool and name it GND (if

that's the name of all my ground signals).  Don't I still need to connect

the polygon to a GND signal somewhere?  I've been doing that by drawing a

small bridge using the wire tool and eventually it works, but I figure it

should work the first time unless there's some other step I'm skipping.

this polygons don't have actual connections (pad, via, track) to the

related signal.

But you can change their orphant flag to on (change orphans on) to get

them filled without connection.

By the way, the small stub at (1,8 0,75) to (1,8 0,8) is not connected

to the gnd net and therefor does not take care of connecting the lower

polygon.

It also causes an overlap DRC error (3 actually).
