Library editor integration

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

Hi, I had to change the shape of one pad (in the IC Package the pin 1 is a square so as to help correct orientation when assembling the board). I had to right-click, find the library file name and the name of the part; then open the library, search for the package, open it, change the shape of the pin, save. Then back to the board and update the library.

Maybe there is a shortcut I am not aware of, but I would suggest adding an "edit library" or similar in the right-click menu that would open the component for edit and do the update on exiting.

Regards!

I agree, there should be a quick(native) way to get from a symbol or

element to the source library  item.

Until that feature is added you can do it the following way, for a board

    element(package):

    1) Save the attached ULP (Get_Name.ulp) into your ULP folder.

    2) In the board editor, create a custom context menu item by entering into

    the command line:

set context element 'Edit Package' 'run Get_Name'

In use you right click the package(element) of interest. Actually any

element will do. The context menu opens and you should see, towards the

bottom, the item 'Edit Package' which you click.

This runs the attached ULP  'Get_Name.ulp' into which you enter the name of

the part of interest. e.g. R1

Get_element.ulp then calls the ULP 'edit-used-dev-pac-sym.ulp' which opens

the library package you want.(The package of R1 in this example).

The above also works in the schematic and you get taken to the Device

    editor.

You need to set up the context item in the schematic using the command

set context instance 'Edit Package' 'run Get_Name'

    HTH

    Hi there Warren!

That should make things easier... but I can't seem to find the attached Get_Name.ulp file on your reply, maybe that's because this is the very first time I am using this forum and still haven't got the hang of it...!

If you feel like it, email the file to luis.marka@terra.com.br, ok?

Best regards, and thanks a lot!
