APPCRASH EAGLE 6.4 on WIN 7 64

terje
terje over 12 years ago

Dear the support team at Cadsoft!

I have just purchased and installed Eagle pro shematic and layout package on to my brand new win 7 64 computer.

I'm now trying to design some new components with the library editor but every 3 to 10 minutes the application crashes and the work is lost.

To me it appears that the crash happens randomly. It can happen when I'm resizing the window, moving a element, copy a element, changing the grid. pushing the undo button  etc. etc.

For now the Eagle is useless as this happens too frequently.

The eagle program is installed under C:\eagle

The version is 6.4.0.

What did I do wrong?

Is this a known issue?

Windows crash report:

I am having the same problems using 6.4.0 under Windows 7 64 bit.

First I could get the app to crash while editing text properties in the schematic editor but now I have just lost a lot of work in the library editor when editing the properties of a plated through hole drill size when modifying an existing part.

When I booted Eagle 6.4.0 back up it had lost the working directory I use as well as where my libraries are stored and reverted back to defaults.

My projects and library files are saved on a network drive and have been since I first started using Eagle at version 6.0 so its not that - I have reverted back to 6.3 so I can continue working on an urgent project.

    TO ALL:

The problem is with all 32bit programs running within the 64bit Windows. Change from 64 to 32 and probelm solved. From the day Windows XP was avalilable in 32bit and 64bit mode, it has been a problem. And it has not been solved.

    Hi Brett,

I have tried reproducing it on our Windows 7 machine and was unable to

reproduce the error. My conclusion now is that it must be a 64-bit

related issue so I have forwarded my conclusions along with the

procedure you've provided to Germany so that they can try to recreate

    the bug.

I will keep you posted, in the process of attempting to recreate the

crash I stumbled on to a minor bug which I have also reported to the

    developers.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Hi Jorge

I also installed version 6.3.0 and I see the same problem.

The first crash took quite a while until it happened. But after the first time it is totally unstable.

    Best regards

    Matthias

I am using 2 monitors but I think this should be not the cause of the problem

I can make 6.4 crash every time by doing the following:

    - Open a board file

    - Hit F1 for the help screen

    - Close the help screen

    - Crash

I have this exact same problem with the BETA 6.4.1 so it looks like it hasn't been addressed yet.

Still using 6.3.0 here at work to over come this but I am being asked to start to roll out Eagle to new development engineers and the environment will be the same : Windows 7 64 bit.

I just installed Eagle 6.4.0 on my second Win7 x64 machine and it works fine.  Both machines are laptops with Win7 x64.  One works, one fails (solid/repeatable failures).

I reported this issue with EAGLE support when I got my new PC (with Windows 8 64-bit) in February but it was promptly dismissed as a user installation error.

This blog trail has confirmed that it was not me and there is actually a fault.

I can confirm that the Press F1 for help and closing the subsequent help dialog box is the fastest way of getting the error.

As a guess it'll be a single cause creating this angst.

Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Note to all: Even running EAGLE as administrator has the identical behaviour.

I uninstalled EAGLE 6.4 to trial EAGLE 6.4.2 beta. The crashing has stopped. This is great news.
