APPCRASH EAGLE 6.4 on WIN 7 64

terje
terje over 13 years ago

Dear the support team at Cadsoft!

I have just purchased and installed Eagle pro shematic and layout package on to my brand new win 7 64 computer.

I'm now trying to design some new components with the library editor but every 3 to 10 minutes the application crashes and the work is lost.

To me it appears that the crash happens randomly. It can happen when I'm resizing the window, moving a element, copy a element, changing the grid. pushing the undo button  etc. etc.

For now the Eagle is useless as this happens too frequently.

The eagle program is installed under C:\eagle

The version is 6.4.0.

What did I do wrong?

Is this a known issue?

Windows crash report:

Why are you trying to run Eagle under Windows 64 ?

On Microsoft site in Dev Center is this info: "WOW64 is the x86 emulator that allows 32-bit Windows-based applications to run seamlessly on 64-bit Windows."

It is clear that this emulator is not running seamlessly all of the time.

So until Microsoft fixes this, it makes more sense to run 32 bit versions until then.

Beta 6.4.2 fixed the issue for me too.  Good work but poor communication.

I have just tried the BETA 6.4.2 and I can confirm that changing properties on text as well as opening and closing the help screen haven't caused this version to crash on my system. Fingers crossed for a full release soon.

I uninstalled EAGLE 6.4 to trial EAGLE 6.4.2 beta. The crashing has stopped. This is great news.

Note to all: Even running EAGLE as administrator has the identical behaviour.

I reported this issue with EAGLE support when I got my new PC (with Windows 8 64-bit) in February but it was promptly dismissed as a user installation error.

This blog trail has confirmed that it was not me and there is actually a fault.

I can confirm that the Press F1 for help and closing the subsequent help dialog box is the fastest way of getting the error.

As a guess it'll be a single cause creating this angst.

Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

    Hi everybody.

I am not using Windows 7 but I still have the same problems with Eagle crashing.

I am using Windows XP SP3 and Eagle 6.4.0 free Version.

    Here is what I noticed:

I switch on my notebook, start Eagle and work for hours without any problem.

Then I start Acrobat Reader to open a data sheet or whatever and that is when the problem begins.

Sometimes I can see Eagle disappear from  the task bar while Acrobat opens. Usually Eagle is closed without warning when I click on any of the icons or in the menu bar.

After this it is not possible to continue working with Eagle even after the reader is closed. I have to restart the notebook and then I can continue.

The same thing happens when I switch on the notebook, start Acrobat Reader, close it (or leave it open) and then start Eagle.

    Acrobat Reader version 10.1.6

I hope this helps solving the problem.

    Regards

    Hermann

I just installed Eagle 6.4.0 on my second Win7 x64 machine and it works fine.  Both machines are laptops with Win7 x64.  One works, one fails (solid/repeatable failures).

I have this exact same problem with the BETA 6.4.1 so it looks like it hasn't been addressed yet.

Still using 6.3.0 here at work to over come this but I am being asked to start to roll out Eagle to new development engineers and the environment will be the same : Windows 7 64 bit.
