Persistant Highlighting again

Hello,

on a layout with IC with many ground pins, I am about to place ground

vias. I can highlight the ground pins with "show gnd", but as soon a I start

to place ground vias with "via 'gnd" the highlighted ground pin return to

normal bightness.

A perststant highlight would help much in that situation.

    Yes. Often it would (I often wished back the persistent show from

    previous EAGLE versions), but sometimes it was a nuisance (I often was

    glad that the behaviour changed). Since EAGLE did have the persistent

    highlighting previously, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to

    implement it again.

    In order to let the user decide what behaviour fits best, I suggest a

    settable option like

       SET PERSISTENTSHOW 0;

    and

       SET PERSISTENTSHOW 1;

    (with the default being 0)

    The former would behave as implemented now, the latter as implemented

    previously. This way, one could use the best of BOTH worlds.

    sadly it seems to be difficult, read Klaus Schmidinger in

    eagle.betatest "Re: highlighting after show disapears [ was: feedback

    for 5.2.2 ]" dated 2008-09-16, Message-ID:

    <gao7gd$kg3$1@cheetah.cadsoft.de>

    |With the old version, objects were drawn directly to the window area, while

    |with the new version we need to redraw rectangular areas of the window in

    |a background pixmap and draw that whole rectangle onto the window - which

    |may be larger than an individual object, for instance in case of a 45 degree

    |wire. Therefore, while in the old version we could just leave the highlighted

    |objects on screen even after SHOW had ended, this is no longer feasible now.

    |

    |There are plans to change the handling of highlighted objects, but this

    |will most likely require an incompatible change to the data structures.
