Create device with a package that doesn't connect all pins?

I'm making a symbol for the QFN20 and SSOP24 variants of the Silicon Laboratories Si473x family devices.

 

Apart from the SSOP having more NC and earth pins (which I can connect as duplicates), there's an extra pin (DYBP) on the SSOP which isn't brought out on the QFN. If I add this pin to the device, I get errors using the QFN package because it isn't connected. Likewise the PAD on the QFN doesn't exist on the SSOP, so same problem in reverse.

 

Is it possible to have a pin in a device which is not available in all package variants? How?

Or do I have to make separate devices for these?

    I agree.

    I hope CADSOFT would add at least this small feature, even if it hasn't

    any plan to support multiple symbols.

    Hi Cliff,

     

    I hope you're doing well, you would have to make seperate devices for this. Currently EAGLE only allows one symbol per device and there are no provisions for altering the symbol based on package.

     

     

    Ok, that's a shame. It would be good to have a pin connection status of "unavailable",

    then the same symbol could be used for the different packages - as long as unavailable

    pins weren't connected in the schematic.
