layers self-show

I am routing a board with through hole and also SMDs on both sides.  I am

working now on the bottom.  To make things readable I've turned off all of

the top layer stuff, since I'm only interested in routing some smd items on

the bottom.

In one case I need to connect from a through hole via to a bottm pad.

However, when I click on the via all the top layer stuff turns on making

the screen too garbled with information to see clearly.

I want to turn off the top layer view items and STAY OFF...can this

automatic turning-on be stopped?

    6.4 on windows 7

Can you prevent the layers from turning on?

Part of the problem may be it turns on the top layer and points an airwire

to a top location that is closer to the smd pad on the bottom(if a via is

to be added).  However, I already have vias on the bottom that I want to

connect over to, I'm not wanting to add more vias when something is

available and almost as close already.

I have pads & vias on the bottom, I just want to connect them, with the top

    stuff turned off!

This does not happen for me.

With top layers turned off I can route an SMD on the bottom to a via that is

connected to the top layer. Additionally I can route on the botttom layer

between a via and a pad.

Layer Top does not turn on.

You may be starting to route with the layer 'Top'  selected. Ensure that

before you start to route, the 'Bottom' layer is selected (not just

displayed). Use the tool bar that reveals itself when you select route.
