need bare copper

I defined a reactangle  & also a rather strange shape polygon on layer 1

(with 100 mils clearance.  They both show up as red, just fine.  However,

since these are heat sinks, I do not want them to be covered with anything

such as soldermask..I want bare coipper here (or perhaps with solder

reflow. How do you specify this when drawing the polygon or rectanlge?

Draw the same shape on a 'stop' layer, tStop in your case. Highly

adviseable to check results with a Gerber viewer, to catch errors.

Draw the same shape on a 'stop' layer,

..is there an easy way to copy this exactly on the mentioned layer...my

    polygon has many vertices.

Also, the filled polygon has a much different "shape" than the drawn

polygon due to the electrical clearance to adjacent traces, pads, vias,

etc.  I only want bare copper for the filled (copper) area, not the total

    polygon border.

Consider that bare copper has low emissivity

    http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/emissivity-coefficients-d_447.html

Having the mask over the copper will increase emissivity.

So only remove the mask where you have the heatsink touching the board.

so how can you get the exact same polygon on different layers?  Is there a

way to copy it from one layer to another?

    Hi

There are two ULPs that can assist here. Check out:

    copy-layer-to-any-layer.ulp

    copy-wire-to-solder-mask.ulp

Eagle wont copy from a signal layer to a non signal layer so these ULPs get

around that by analysing, say, your top layer and rebuilding it on a non

    signal layer.

The "clone" tool will duplicate a polygon complete with all vertices

(but moved if you want). Then the copy can be put on a different layer

using "change layer". There are some limitations on what you can do that

to, though. Possibly you may not be allowed to change from copper to

    non-copper.
