Eagle 6.5 on Debian 7.4, freezes on 'Esc' and on tool switch.

Hi, new-user,

1. Options->Directories->Projects is empty and that causes screw-ups when you try to create a 'New Project' - it silently refuses to add a new project.

2. After I 'Add' a part from the library, when I hit 'Esc'  (once, twice, many times) to go back to the Parts-Library window, the whole thing freezes (cursor moves but clicking on a tool does nothing). I have to Ctrl-C to exit.

3. I add a bunch of parts and click the 'Select' tool to try to 'group select' then I click-drag to select and it freezes and no amount of 'Esc' allows me to click on another tool. The cursor moves but nothing else - no menus, and Ctrl-Panel doesn't recognise clicks

    Hi Veek,

EAGLE can't create a new project if it doesn't know where to create it.

Under Options -> Directories -> Projects make sure that some location is

specified. I would recommend an EAGLE folder in documents, but any

directory as long as it's not in the Program Files x86 folder(Windows)

or in the Applications(Mac) folder will do.

    2. After I 'Add' a part from the library, when I hit 'Esc'  (once,

else - no menus, and Ctrl-Panel doesn't recognise clicks

When you went through the installation process did the installer

complain about any missing libraries or things like that?

    Let's start there.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

nope - it didn't complain, and i checked using 'ldd'. I just can't use 'Esc' everything else works.

'EAGLE can't create a new project if it doesn't know where to create it.'

err.. that's what i said.. what I meant was that in the next release if someone in Eagle could point it to /opt/eagle-x.x.x/projects/ that would fix the issue.

    Hi Veek,

I hope you're doing well. What I meant to say was that you should set

that path to whatever path is convenient on your machine and to your

preferences. Different people work different ways and normally EAGLE

defaults to a home location for the user projects under linux but for

some reason it didn't on your machine.

As to the Esc key issue. What keyboard driver are you using? If Esc is

the only key that isn't working maybe an unusual keyboard driver might

    be to blame.

Hi Jorge, yup - I'm okay image as in I haven't bust an artery over this image everything else seems to be working. The thing is, I'm new to Eagle and was trying to follow one of the tutorials and i kept clicking 'Project' in the Eagle Control Panel and nothing was happening.

I'm on Linux-Xorg so 'xev' tells me, when I press 'Esc', that i'm generating keycode 9 (keysym 0xff1b, Escape). Also, vim, GIMP etc work just fine with my Esc.

    Hi Veek,

This is very unusual, I have an Ubuntu machine on my end here and the

Esc key works just fine. EAGLE takes whatever the OS gives it so it's

weird that something wouldn't work like that. Is there any possiblity

the window manager is intercepting the Esc key, this happens with Alt

often I've never seen it happen with Esc.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

I use olvwm - which is quite dated. I don't think it's intercepting a key, but it's quite possible that after the 'Esc' is read, something odd is taking place.. i'll fool around and if I find out i'll post.
