Eagle cad alternative?

I have been quite happy with the program as a whole, except my PC just cant stand it.

Freeze up's, super laggy, to complete crashes. I can just open a project up, let it sit on my laptop, and it will be frozen when i get back a few minutes later.

So, what would be your guy's second choice?

I know of KICAD, LTSPICE, but i don't know what to choose.

And i am open to any other free/open software you may recommend.

That is just the three that i have herd of.image

So, what would be your next TWO runners up, and why?

imageP.S. if it had a simulator, that would be great.

I do not recognize this description at all. Are you a MAC user with

    unsupported OS maybe?

If not, you better check your pc thoroughly.

I've never had this kind of trouble on Eagle. Not on Windows, Linux or OSX.

With OSX Yosemite there is a problem with how Eagle works with OSX's

trackpad zooming (see other posts here) but Eagle isn't at odds with

your PC. Clearly something else is going on.

    • Win 7.
    • 8GB ram.
    • AMD quad cor A6-3420M. 2.40GHZ
    • AMD Radion 6520G+7670M 1GB video system.

Eagle, and auto-cad, are the only programs i have a problem with.

It runs everything else great. I even did a fresh windows install, and get the same thing. updated all drivers, even the BIOS.

I am fairly good with PC's I personally feel that the video card don't want to play right with the program.

But, I can play intensive games, And any other program i can think of. I have cleaned everything out, and checked the fans, nothing seams to over heat. and everything runs fine.

IDK. I was just hoping i could find some recommendations of Other software i could try.

I have some big plans for the future, and don't want to haft to fight software to get it done.

    Hi Lupe,

I hope you're doing well. Do you have Roboform or Conduit installed?

These programs can affect EAGLE's operation.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

I'd have to concur with the previous comments, EAGLE is about the most rock-solid bit of software on my PC (Windows 7). EAGLE has been running for a week on it (the machine is put to sleep at night) and I'd be surprised if it crashed. It also uses very few resources, which is great - always runs speedily. It may be worth sending the error report/crash dump to Cadsoft if one is generated.

Maybe you can check the settings of your graphics card. Sometimes

hardware acceleration causes some trouble, you might try turning it off

    (at least for testing).

The fact that you have this problem with two different

programmes/applications suggests that the machine has some problem

rather than the program. Heat is one possibility, badly seated RAM is

another.  I've experienced similar behaviour that was eventually

traced to a HDD problem.  In that episode the failure point changed

after a format and reinstall. SMART didn't show any problems.  These

kind of issues can take a very great deal of time to locate and cure.

    I decided to try KICAD.

I have only been messing with it a day, but it will dew i guess, it is no eagle, but it's not crashing ether. So, at least i have "transfered" 5 projects into it sofar.

My pc dosent have any problems running heavy programs, no over heating, no ram malfunctions, nothing.

And i use very taxing programs too.

It simply don't like the coding that eagle has. Thats all.

    It happens some times.

But just for the sake of it, i have ran a burn in test overnight(8 hrs strait), than the next night i ran aquamark's looped test for 8 hr's. no hang up's, or nothing.

So, mabe KICAD will work for me.
