CK103X04 Rotary Switch 3 Pos 4 Pole 30* non shorting

No help on finding a switch.

The typical design flow should be something like this.

1. check pricing, availability and delivery of possible parts you could.

2. Download datasheets and check the part to your lib or make your own.

3. Optional last check it so print 1:1 on paper and check that the part

you ordered a sample of matches the layout.

A sub note is don't trust any lib until you match it to the data sheet

and move it into your lib.

Thank you, Paul. The problem is that most of these companies, they do not show the 3 pole switch in the data sheets. I am waiting on some more info from Mouser.

What I am hoping for is someone who has used this switch .lib & knows of the correct switch to plug in the hole. Also, this was in the library that comes with the Eagle software.

I will definitely do more research next time.

Seems easy enough.

The library says its a C&K part

The C&K website has plenty of documentation

http://www.ck-components.com/a/rotary,10517,en.html

You build up the part number from the required characteristics of the

rotary switch i.e.  shaft diameter/metric imp and contact type etc.

The part is available from Digikey where you can cross reference the

manufacturer part number and no doubt others.

Therein lies the problem. I was on the phone with the top guy at C&K. It is not & never has been their product. I have 200 of their switches that do not fit.

Time for some clarity.

Your post is entitled says CK103X04 Rotary Switch 3 Pos 4 Pole 30* non

shorting. I see it as contradictory and thus have an issue with it.

CK103X04 is an EagleCad numbering convension and not a manufacturer part

number/name.

The number of poles is always quoted first in switch parlance so I'm

inclined to  interpret CK103X04 as a 3 pole 4 position switch. That is

what the library package is and it appears to match the C&K diagram and

so should fit the appropriate C&K switch.

So how many poles (central) pins do your switches have?

What C&K part number are they?

Your initial post talks of one of the pins being different " ....except

for the upper common (wiper) pin is different..."

The C&K information does not indicate a different pin. All pins should

be the same.

If you design requires 4 poles then I don't expect there will be one

that fits this 3 pole footprint.

I have the A30403RNCBE. It is a 3 pole 4 positoion switch by C&K. What I am getting at, is if you look at the CK103X04 in the Eagle library, on the 3 inner pins, the lower 2 are closer than each to the upper one.

The CK103X04 will fit no switch in the C&K inventory, present or past. I am trying to find a switch that will fit the pin pattern, or I will have to do a new board that will cost more & delay production quite a bit

Now I see your problem. The footprint has three issues.

The inner pins are not spread evenly around their circle

The diameters of both circles of pins are not quite the same as the C&K

datasheet.

I'd say the eagle footprint is in error (sadly). Hence the best practice

of not using one you have not verified for yourself.

I'm not confident you will find a part that will fit.

Designers regularly have a couple of cheap prototype boards made first

before before placing a larger order. That would have picked up this

problem and there may be another yet to be discovered so consider the

prototype board path.

OK, so I have redone the "Package" of the original switch & printed it out. It now fits with the alterations. I actually perforated the paper with the switch on a rigid piece of foam board. I also made the drill holes a bit larger for some fudge factor. Now, I have searched, but what I would like to do is replace the existing "Package" for the "switch.lbr (CK103X04.pac)" (Same extension). Is there a way to inject this new .pac file into the existing  device? Or, do I have to make a whole new .lbr file with the schematic & everything else?
