Turn off thermals on selected components

Yes, that is an option, but I would prefer something that did not involve tweaking or workarounds.
I have 5 pressfit connectors with 916 pin in total on a board with 14 layers. Many polygons in other words.

I will suggest (in suggestion group) adding an thermal option / checkbox to component info-window, but i fear that will require a major code rewrite.

A thermal option checkbox for each component is probably a reasonable suggestion. In addition to this I was thinking possibly it could also be something that is specified as part of the library part? After all, that press fit connector will want to not have thermals wherever it is used, so that info should really be stored with the part in the library I would think.

What I meant to say is you CAN specify this in the library as a specific through hole part as correctly mentioned by the subsequent poster as it's just a property of the pads in the package editor. It may still be useful to be able to turn this on and off at in the component properties dialog on a per component basis though as per your suggestion but not essential as it can be correctly specified in the part library.

there is an "Thermals" option for PADs and SMDs. This can be defined

already in the library.

@Vidar: You could change the pads' properties and do a library

update in the drawing.

Hmm, thats a good one. Already implemented, I like that and I will redo the library part.

But I still wish for the option, as Rachel also suggested, to have the checkbox in the component properties in board layout.

This because sometimes one wants to allow for the press-fit to be soldered. Then thermals should be there. I use the TE Tinman

connectors, these have the option to be soldered aswell as to be "press-fitted"...  Having the checkbox avoids the need for two lib parts for same component.

Problem would be to solve this if only some of the pins in the lib part has their thermals set to off in the library.

(Maybe use a dropdown selection box instead where one have the options

"As in library", "All off", "All on" and even "All off for pwr/sup pins" "All on for pwr/sup pins")

You could have two versions of the package, one with and one without thermals in your library for the same part. Then the different versions would be accesses by right clicking on a part and selecting "Package" from the context menu and selecting the alternative.

use case for it. For capacitors (especially low ESR), you may want to

avoid thermals by instance, not globally, but a polygon fill can also

control this. A polygon with thermals=off will fill a smd/pad with

thermals=on.

Yep agreed, anywhere you care a lot about ESR/ESL or have particularly high current requirements, then this might be useful. You can do it with a polygon as you said or by package variants but this might be excessive to have additional packages defined for with thermals and without thermals on lots of generic parts, so having an easy checkbox to override the default on a per component basis might be useful.

Avoiding having several packages is all about effectiveness. To avoid having to update two packages in case of changes, and to limit the size of the library, and also having the ability to turn thermals individual on and off pr component, or pr. group, is nothing but a benefit. Adding to many polygons also slows down rendering.
