Wiring problem on Eagle

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hello,

I got a problem because I can't wire to a component I created. First, I created a library for the component with Symbol, then Package and Device.

But when I am using this component on my schematic, I can't wire it. I used the same scale and grid for all the schematics and I updated libraries. But it is impossible to wire it.

If anyone has an idea to solve my problem ?

No, you misunderstand, the pads of the footprint do NOT have to be on the 0.1" grid, only the pins in the symbol!

    Best Regards,

Ok now I can connect wires because I used 0.1" grid but I don't have the good dimensions. For example, I need to have x=0 and y=8.5mm for a pin and I used x=0 and y=0.3 inches (7.62 mm).

    That's a big issue.

    Hi Djib,

Not in the symbol. It's important to create a distinction between the

schematic and the layout. In the layout you have to obey physics and

your packages need to accurately mirror the physical devices.

The same is not true of the schematic. The goal of the schematic is to

be a symbolic representation of your design that is easy to read and

clearly describes your design intent. The symbols in your schematic

don't need to match the exact dimensions of your component. That's why

the 0.1" requirement only applies to the schematic and symbol for

everything else you can use whatever grid is convenient.

The dimensional requirement you are describing only applies to the

package not to the symbol, so you don't have an issue.

hth, let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

Yes you are right, I put the right dimensions of the pins in Package and it works. I got the right dimensions in the PCB and in the final schematic.

I thank you a lot Rachaelp image

    I understand what you mean.

In symbol, I don't have the exact dimensions of the connector of the sensor. But I can connect the wires.

In package, I modified the dimensions of the connector, I put the right ones and I got the exact dimensions of my connector in the layout.

So, I think the issue is resolved.
