Making parts from datasheet into eagle library

I have to use a specific type of capacitor in making a circuit board. I have not found any CAD designs for this capacitor. I use the dimensions from the datasheet, but it seems that the width of the line is making the parts larger. For example if I have to make a 3mm by 3mm square, and I use the polygon function, and use (0,0) (3,0) (3,3)(0,3). Then I change the grid to make the boxes 3mm boxes, the square will be larger than 3mm. DO I have to correct my footprint to compensate for the width of the polygon  lines.

    Hi Ahsan,

     

    Is the 3mm x 3mm square you are drawing for a surface mount pad? If so you need to use the SMD command instead. That will create a surface mount pad the correct size with solder resist and paste mask areas correctly defined and will correctly map to the pins in the symbol. Similarly if your capacitor is through hole use the PAD command.

     

    If you are just drawing the body of the part on the tPlace of tDocu layers then just don't worry about it as they are only for placement markers on the silk screen and the assembly drawing.
