Custom shape polygon pad footprint/package?

Hello,

I'm a new user of Cadsoft Eagle, and have been struggling a bit to design custom packages/footprints?

Can somebody please give me some hints on what's the right/easiest method to design a custom shape pad like the central exposed pad from the picture for example? I know I should use the polygon overlapping a normal pad, the method I've been using is to roughly design its shape and then adjust manually the coordinates of all the lines of the polygon but this task seems to be quite tedious and time consuming, I wonder there is a better way?

    Hello,

    I think from what you've posted you are probably doing things roughly the right way as it stands. I know it can seem a little long winded at first but it does get easier and quicker with practice. There is definitely scope for making the process easier though, I admit.

    Thank you , very nice tutorial, very compreensive, although I'm not beeing able to play the video at the end of the page to get a better insight, it displays an error message reading

    I saw this error message the other day. It seems like a weird caching issue possibly related to the forum upgrade.

     

    To resolve it I did a forced refresh of the page telling it to bypass the local cache and reload it from the external source and from that point it was fine. There are a couple of ways to do this depending on your OS:

     

    1. Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button.
    2. Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    3. Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

    Tried the hard reload, clearing cache and cookies, and still displays the same error message, even in Windows Edge browser... Will try maybe in another Internet connection.

    Very strange. I'm not sure what else to suggest....

     

    have you got any ideas why this error is showing for Ricardo?

    Hi &

     

    Well that was odd. I'm not entirely sure what happened there. For some reason, the video record that gets created when you insert a video was not there - that can happen sometimes if the post was created in a different content and then copy/pasted over to a new piece of content - but can happen for a few other reasons too. The video record isn't required for a video to work, but it is required for permissions to work. So when the author, or an admin comes along and looks at the post, it works fine because both have managed to bypass a standard permissions check. But when a normal user or a guest comes along and looked at it, it was failing the permissions check because the record it was checking was not there.

     

    I've made a bunch of minor tweaks, one of which has fixed it, but I'm not sure which of the things I did was the thing that actually made it work. But it's working now image

     

    We've had some issues in the past with videos posted to blogs, but this didn't feel like a repeat of an old issue - this felt like something new. I can't believe that the video has had issues since it was published in June, so I think we're looking at something gone awry over the upgrade. It's possible that it had problems pre-upgrade but that those problems were silent. And that since the upgrade - those problems are no longer silent.

     

    I'm hypothesising here, and I'm not a fan of doing that. I'll go and have a look for older content and make sure videos all work fine, and if there is a problem, well, I guess that'll keep me busy for a while image

    for me this issue with the videos occurs only in Part 2 and 3.

    Part 1 and 4 are all right.

    It does seem a bit random when it occurs, it's different for each person reading it it would seem! I think fixed it for one of them by moving the videos to a different location. I'll see what can be done with the rest of them. Hopefully this is just an artefact of the forum software update and the next tutorials I post won't have this issue....
