Change font and position of component description

mpiechotka

For some components the font describing component on silkscreen is very large - if text is long or component small it can be much wider/larger than component. I cannot figure out how to perform those three changes:

  • Move text so if I have, for example, a grid of resistors they are labeled as grid as well
  • Remove the value from resistor so if I label it as 200 Ω it is known by label/BOM, not necessarily by silkscreen as it takes up space
  • Change the size to something smaller.

    Maciej,

The first step is to use the 'Smash' tool on the board file.  Select the 'smash' tool, then click on the component.  This should separate the label and value from the component.  You can then delete the 'value' field.  You can then use the 'change - size' tool to re-size the 'label' field.  Once you have re-sized the label, you can move it to the desired location.

    Good luck,

    Gene

One thing to add: While it is perfectly possible to delete the value

after 'smash'ing the part, it's usually not necessary. Since most people

don't want any values on the silk screen, most people simply exclude the

xValues layers from the CAM job. For editing, you can turn off those

    layers in the editor.

Oh, two things: a lot of libraries use "proportional" font but the CAM

processor can't export this. You're better off doing CHANGE>FONT>VECTOR

    on all the name fields.

Sorry for very late reply - I haven't seen xValue layer in the list to hide it and it also hinders my ability to view the board. Which layer should I turn off?

There are two layers: tValues and bValues for top- and bottom-side parts

    respectively. They are layers 27 & 28
