The first thing you need to do is go into the properties for the smd and turn off automatic cream generation by unchecking the "Cream" checkbox. Now you can use the polygon tool to draw a smaller tCream area on the tCream layer. Note that the line width of the polygon will affect your polygon size and don't make it 0 or it may cause exceedingly long gerber generation times.
