I noticed today, after making my own library part for a 1/4" Mono Jack
Socket (Standard audio connector), and placing the pads quite a way
from the part outline on the Document layer (in the Package editor(?))
- that when I go to make a board, I can place the Pads of the
component on the edge of the Board as needed (where I'd solder leads
from the board to the Jack) without having the part outline actually
on the board.
This seems to let me use one Device on my Schematic and on my board
without having to make two schematics for on/off board components, or
use any of the other 'workarounds' that have been mentioned in the
group here.
I'm not getting any ERC or DRC errors in either the Board or Schematic
editors and don't need to worry about silk-screening or board-houses
as I'll be making my own boards.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't be doing this?
Any problems I'm likely to come up against when I come to make the
board?
Hope this all makes sense/helps. BTW I'm using the free/lite version
under X11 on a Mac - if that matters.
Many thanks for any input/advice on this.
