Delete Pad

Former Member
Former Member over 17 years ago

I am trying to edit a connector in the libary editor by removing pins not

used, I can delete the pins but not the solder pads. I get the error "Can't

delete pad/smd from a package that is in use" What am I doing wrong?

    Greetings jlt,

Why are you removing pins? Surely the connector either has them or isn't

    the same connector!

Anyway, the error message is saying that you can't do this to a

"package" that is already associated with a "device". I think that's

because the device may have allocated pins of its "symbol" to all the

pads, so losing a pad would break the device. Removing pins from symbols

doesn't have this restriction, because it merely results in the device

    having some no-connect pads.

What you need to do is copy the package to a different name first, then

modify that. Then you should similarly copy and rename the symbol before

modifying it. And finally you create a new device that uses the modified

    symbol and package.

    Thankyou for the reply Robert.

The reason I am removing pins is because the Harting connector I need to use

(eurocard connector) is a 48pin. The only library I can find is a Harting

    96pin.

They are identical except for the 48pin not having the odd numbered pins so

removing half the pins will result in the exact pins, pitch, pads etc.

Again, thanks for the advice, I will try this tomorrow.

Ahhh, hold on, I think I got it now. I have managed to delete the pads.

I guess I now have to link it back to the Device and Symbol?
