Problems installing version 4.16r2

Hi

 

I have recently reinstalled windows 2000 on a new computer, but ran into

a problem when installing Eagle v4.16r2.

After nearly finished installation I get the following message on file

INS0432.MP

 

"The file or directory is corrupt or unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility"

 

After accepting this message i get a new message being almost identical,

locking like this (difference in bold)

 

"The file or directory C: is corrupt or unreadable. Please run chkdsk

utility"

 

The program seems to run as it should but the message worries me since I

cant detect any errors on my computer using any disk utilities (and I

have a few).

System information:

OS: Windows 2000 SP4 version 5.00.2195 English

File system: NTFS

RAM: 1GB

Chipset: Intel 945

CPU: Pentium 4 (3GHz)

 

Only thing that comes to my mind is that I changed the default

allocation for Eagle to c:\Program files\cadsoft\eagle

 

I have earlier run same version on same HW using w2k (before re

installation).

Note: Reason for me to reinstall is  that I earlier, last week, tried to

install and try out the  BETA 5 version of Eagle but the computer

crashed during installation and I never got the system stable again.

I tried to download the installation file for version 4.16r2 again and

reinstall it but with the same result.

 

I am keeping the option "local HW failure" in my mind being concerned

for my HDD, but so far I cant understand that it is Eagle that every

time is the trigger  for these abnormalities.

 

I use quite many development sw tool chains on this computer and none of

theme seems to give me any troubles like these.

 

What is the INS0432.MP ? It seems that there is problems related to

extracting this file...

    image I wish I could, because after I got the problem and after I tested my

    system for errors and tried to find what happend, I shut down my system

    the normal way. However, after rebooting, system would not boot and w2k

    install disk and repair floppy was not able to repair the system so I

    reinstalled the w2k again. This time I will run more tests to verify if

    I have HW problems, but so far I have detected none and the only program

    I did not install according to my default setup is... eagle. System

    seems stable so fare. I cant understand why eagle should cause me

    problems since I have used eagle before with no problem. Could there be

    conflicts with some drivers/dlls which eagle use ??? Have no idea. I

    will run my system now a while whitout eagle and later I will reinstall

    Eagle to see wath happen. Perhaps the moon was in its wrong phase....

     

    By the way, what could the temp directory have to do with this???

    Sometimes the temp directory is full and a lot of programms are not able

    to do the install correctly. In extremely case the free space is too

    small od older install files cannot be overwritten.

    The InstallShield uses the temp directory for storing and reading

    files while the installing process, as most other applications

    do. But not all setup routines delete their temporary files after

    finishing the installation process.

    Now it may happen that InstallShield wrongly recoginizes some

    left over files. This can cause problems for the installation

    process.....

    So it is wise to delete all temp files before.
