Eagle 5 installation problem on Windows Vista

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 17 years ago

I have been trying unsucessfully to install Eagle 5 on a Vista laptop. I

get:

"Error while copying 'C: \Program Files\EAGLE-5.0.0\bin\eagle.exe' "

I have been then adviced to fix the problem and try the installation again.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I have tried three new downloads from Cadsoft, the effect is the same.

During my subsequent attempts at installation I have noticed one odd thing:

The installer proposes the directory C:\Program Files\EAGLE-5.0.0 and

informs that this directory

already exists and the files it contains will be overwritten and, in the

same dialog box, browsing the Program Files

shows EAGLE-5.0.0\bin. However, outside the installation process, the

contents of C:\Program Files shows

no directory named EAGLE-5.0.0. I only hide from view the protected

operating system files.

This is the only installation problem I have encountered on this machine. It

runs sucessfully many programmes,

most of them installed to C:\Program Files.

Finaly I would like to add that I am new to Vista.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's not the right way, but it could work very well:

    - after opening installer (exe that you downloaded), search in Temp folder

used by Vista. You will find the eagle direcory (with Wzse0.tmp name for

    example)

    - copy this folder in Program files directory, and rename-it to Eagle.

    - cancel the installer you opened at first step.

    - create a shortcut on desktop, or whatever to /proram

    files/eagle/bin/eagle.exe

Or just use winzip to unpack eagle files from instalation kit

I found this little quirk with a few other problems running on Vista.

If the UAC (User Access Control) is ON, and you do not get proper program

execution or control, you must 'run as administrator.'. Seems a bit stupid

to have to do this when one already had admin access...

Go to the install file and right click on it. Choose run as administrator

and then it should run properly.

Most likely, the install program is not handling Vista's 'do you really want

to do that' nagging. Another option is to go to the users in control panel

and turn off UAC (not recommended) This requires a re-boot to take effect.

    Thanks Oppie,

Reinstating the admin access allowed the installation to go through, however

    I noticed

another weird message - the installer could not find a subdirectory eagle

    4.14.

This has been a virgin eagle installation, where does the eagle 4.14 come

    from?

I have ignored the message and, at a glance, the software seems to be

    functional.

I was hoping that Cadsoft could shed some light on these problems.

eSilviu - thank you for you syggestions too.

I'm still a nubie on Eagle, having worked a bit with 4.15 and still trying

to master it. Been using Vista since 2/2007 and now am on SP1. The Run as

Admin tip came from trying to use the windows Live Safety Scanner (which is

a decent clean-up tool) and found it wouldn't run anymore. Asked on the MS

Vista forum and was told about the run as admin option.

I believe that if you are doing a new install and the subdirectory does not

exist, it will create one for your but will sometimes give an error message

that it does not exist.  I am now just trying version 5 at home. We have a

licensed copy of 4 at the office.
