Eagle 5 installation problem on Windows Vista

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 17 years ago

I have been trying unsucessfully to install Eagle 5 on a Vista laptop. I

get:

"Error while copying 'C: \Program Files\EAGLE-5.0.0\bin\eagle.exe' "

I have been then adviced to fix the problem and try the installation again.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I have tried three new downloads from Cadsoft, the effect is the same.

During my subsequent attempts at installation I have noticed one odd thing:

The installer proposes the directory C:\Program Files\EAGLE-5.0.0 and

informs that this directory

already exists and the files it contains will be overwritten and, in the

same dialog box, browsing the Program Files

shows EAGLE-5.0.0\bin. However, outside the installation process, the

contents of C:\Program Files shows

no directory named EAGLE-5.0.0. I only hide from view the protected

operating system files.

This is the only installation problem I have encountered on this machine. It

runs sucessfully many programmes,

most of them installed to C:\Program Files.

Finaly I would like to add that I am new to Vista.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I found this little quirk with a few other problems running on Vista.

If the UAC (User Access Control) is ON, and you do not get proper program

execution or control, you must 'run as administrator.'. Seems a bit stupid

to have to do this when one already had admin access...

Go to the install file and right click on it. Choose run as administrator

and then it should run properly.

Most likely, the install program is not handling Vista's 'do you really want

to do that' nagging. Another option is to go to the users in control panel

and turn off UAC (not recommended) This requires a re-boot to take effect.
