Making cut-out in filled polygon

Former Member
Former Member over 14 years ago

Hi all.

I'm trying to make cut-out zone in filled polygon. I'd like just to define a zone in the polygon, which will have no fill.

In KiCad this function is named - "Cutout area" (Zones->Add cutout area).

Is there a way to do this in Eagle?

Thanks,

Michev

On the outer layers you can create a polygon in trestrict or brestrict.

On other layers you can create a polygon with a different net name with

    a higher rank.

Assuming you are talking of  a signal polygon on the top or bottom layer

For  a polygon on layer 'Top', cut out a shape by placing the cutout shape

    on layer ' tRestrict'

For  a polygon on layer 'Bottom',cut out a shape by placing the cutout shape

    on layer 'bRestrict'

    Thanks for the fast answer.

Unfortunately this was the first thing that I try.

The result is - polygon in tRestrict is created and filled, but does not  prevent filling of this area by my GND polygon on top layer.

    Edit: Solved! image

For some reason, ratsnest was not working correctly after I put restrict polygon. Restarting Eagle and executing a "SET POLYGON_RATSNEST ON;" command, everything went just fine.

    Thanks!

Your image did not make it to nntp.

Is it possible that you used a rectangle rather than a polygon?

He also found his problem and edited his initial post with an update and

those don't get to nntp either.

I have my nntp messages automatically coloured blue when they come from

Farnell so that I can tell its an Element14 message.

In addition you can try the following for inner layers:

Draw a polygon that has the same shape as the restricted area and

set its Rank = 1. All other polygons in this layer must have a higher

rank (for example 2). Thus all other polygons have to respect the

"restrict" polygon. Check the name of the polygon and draw a small

wire with the same name anywhere outside the polygon (it must not be

reachable for the poylgon). If the polygon has set the property

Orphans = Off, it can't be calculated and the area remains free.

Although the contour of the polygon is shown in the layout editor, it

is no problem at all for data output with the CAM processor. The

outline wires of the polygon do not appear in the manufacturing data.

Good point Warren.  I just changed http://www.eaglecentral.ca/forums so

that users can't edit posts--not even their own.  Users are now forced to

reply to their own message and make the edits.  This way, nntp and

eaglecentral forum users will all see the same info.

Not ideal, but it's worth the extra hassle to keep things in sync.

    Cheers,

    James.
