Split Symbol Across Multiple Pages

Former Member
Former Member over 14 years ago

Hello.

I have a device with several hundred pins.  For the sake of organizing my schematic, I'd like to split the library symbol across two pages---I can't easily fit it on to a single page at the moment.  Is this possible in EagleCAD?

Any hints or ideas on how to do this (or just make the symbol more manageable) are most appreciated.

On complex IC's, such as microcontrollers, I split the symbols into

logical blocks.  GPIO A, GPIO B, Power block, JTAG block, USB, EBI, etc.

for this very purpose.  The only symbol in the device that is marked

MUST is the power block.  Everything else is marked as CAN.  IN then use

INVOKE to place the CAN blocks on separate sheets.

DPDT relays are treated the same way.  ADD places the coil, and INVOKE

    places each pole.

    Enjoy,

        - Chuck

The device has to consists of several symbols which you add into

the device editor. There you can choose between several Addlevels.

Please take look into the manual about library definition for details.

If the Device is defined this way, you can ADD gate by gate into the

schematic. To place a not yet placed gate on another schematic sheet use

the INVOKE command and type the name of the component in the

command line. Now a selection menu appears.
