Library management commands

I am evaluating the tool but after a short while of use I am having serious problems managing my self-made library.

How do I - inside a library:

Delete, Rename or Copy a: symbol, device or package?

It is _so_ easy to create new items (this has a prominent place in the select dialog), but it is difficult to rename or get rid of them again.

The remove/ rename command seems not to function or more likely I dont use it properly yet I follow the manual page 271. It fails saying that it cant find the item, yet it is there for sure.

Without this maintenace functionalty my library rapidly becomes messy and cloged up.

Hope for some hints.

You just enter a command at the command line.

Rem(ove) part_name.dev or .pac or .sym to indicate to remove a package,

or a device or a symbol.

Nearly the same goes for rename somethimg:

Ren(name) part_name.dev or .pac or .sym (1 Space) new part_name.

    Example: ren 1234.dev abcd(you don't need .dev a 2nd time here)

This will rename the 1234.dev to abcd.dev

    ren test.sym nowiknowit

This will change the testsymbol to nowiknowit.sym

Thanks for the two answers to my question. They were very helpful. I use the latest version 6 fresh from the download site.

The reason I failed to get it to work is that the name extensions .pac or sym are required.

So the manual is wrong on page 271 where it says

                   "REMOVE DIL16;"

    It should read

                   "REMOVE DIL16.pac;"

Hope next version of EagleCad will have a simpler  interface for library managment.

What I dont like by command line is that I have to remember the correct spelling of the objects- in practice I need the library browser open for peeking into the correct spelling. For the symbols however it is a bit more difficult as they are only listed in: libray editor -> symbol->pull down menu.
