Symbols, Package, Devices Editing ?

Hello All

 

I am new to the community and software. I have some Q,s and hope for some A's!

While creating a schematic, symbols, packages, and devices it seems to be way

to difficult (remember I'm new at this). While placing a component in my schematic

I get this huge assortment of libs (very nice) that has almost what I want. It will have

the schem symbol that I want, but the package footprint isn't. Is there an easy way

to pick a generic symbol, and then a package you want, and then associate the two

to make a device...correct?

    I have done that in 5.11, it worked fine for me.  One thing to be aware of

    (I don't have Eagle running right now) - you can add search paths for

    libraries in the options.  That lets you put your libraries that you have

    created in a different location than the Eagle libraries so they are safe

    from upgrades etc.  You can have your libs either under your personal

    directory or somewhere else on the disk, but they can be in a different

    location which means you don't delete/overwrite them with Eagle.
