Is there a way to delete multiple packages inside a library?

I was consolidating several old libraries and deleted references to many obsolete packages.

Now my new library has a very large number of unused packages.  I tried the remove command but I'm hoping for a more efficient way than typing each package name one by one.

The remove command doesn't appear to accept "wildcards" either.

 

Is there a method to remove groups of packages?

If the Eagle UI can't do it, is there a script or 3rd party utility for library management?

    Thank you for the script -- I'll give it a try.

    BTW, what is wrong with the web forum interface?  I had to access the message in the news group to see the script.

     

    Just to get this gripe off my chest---

     

    How is it that in version 6 after many years of development there is no way to do this efficiently in the UI ?!

    I don't expect Eagle (~ $800) to match my Altium (~ $6000) install but give me a break.  Deleting packages has to be this convoluted?

    Every new Eagle version gives me hope of a serious upgrade to the library management system --- when is version 7 coming out image
